BRIEF PROFILE OF REVEREND FR. PIUS TERWASE AJIKI

Reverend Pius Terwase Ajiki was born on May 15, 1956 to the family of Pa. Joseph Ajiki Kyoho and Mama Roseline Ajiki (all of blessed memories) in Gbem village, Tsambe, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.

Reverend Pius Terwase Ajiki is a Roman Catholic Priest ordained in 1984 for Makurdi Diocese. He has worked within and outside Nigeria, first as Vice Rector at St. James Seminary, Makurdi (now in Yandev, Gboko) and also in Maiduguri Diocese as Parish Priest in St. Paul’s Postikum as well as Priest-in-Charge of Nguru and Gashuwa Parishes.

He has a Masters Degree from the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Port Harcourt, Nigeria, he also studied at the Catholic University of America, Washington DC for the STD and obtained a Doctorate Degree from Howard University, Washington DC in 2004.

Reverend Ajiki has served as Secretary of the Diocesan Pastoral Council in Abuja, as well as Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish Karu and SS Peter & Paul Parish, Nyanya, Abuja. He served as part-time lecturer at the National Missionary Seminary of St. Paul in Gwagwalada, Abuja before his appointment as Chaplain for the Nigerian Apostolate to the Archdiocese of Washington DC, USA, 1997-2006.

While in Washington DC, he served at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops as the National Representative for the Nigerian Apostolate in the US from 2000-2002 and was appointed in 2006 by then Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, the Most Reverend Athanasius Atule Usuh, as Chaplain of the Good Shepherd Catholic Chaplaincy, Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria.

He lectures Ethics and Religion in the Department of Religion and Cultural Studies of the University, while a part-time lecturer of Moral Theology and Ethics at the St. Thomas Aquinas’Institute of Philosophy and Theology and the Augustinian Institute, Makurdi, Nigeria.

He is the author of several books including: Understanding World Religions: Tradition and Cultural Change, Troubling Ethical Waters: A Christian Perspective of Human Sexuality, Challenges of Christian Apostolate in Central Nigeria and Formation of Parish Pastoral and Finance Councils.

Reverend Ajiki has attended and presented several academic papers at local and international conferences and seminars. He has also published scholarly researched articles in reputable academic journals. Reverend Ajiki rose through rank and file to the position of Professor of World Religion.

He is the founder of ST. PIUS X CHILDREN’S SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION. He is currently appointed as the Pastor of the St. Camillus Catholic Chaplaincy, College of Nursing Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria.
